Find out more about World Animal Day.
On October 4th the world is coming together to celebrate all our different animals, so of course we’re celebrating our Parrots.
Of course we love and care for our Parrots all year round, but on this day in particular it’s a chance to look at ways to improve their welfare and highlight the happy influence they have on our lives.
History of World Animal Day
The day was started in 1931 by ecologists in Florence, Italy. October 4th was chosen because it’s the same date as the feast day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.
The aim of World Animal Day is to improve the welfare standards of animals around the world and so as the name suggests the day is celebrated in every corner of the globe. They are approximately 1,000 events in 100 countries taking place in, visit the official World Animal Day website for the full list.
The day originally celebrated just endangered and rare species, but has expanded to celebrate all animals, regardless of their conservation status.
World Animal Day and Parrots
The World Parrot Trust is one organisation that always has plenty of projects running to improve the welfare of Parrots. They run conservation projects, education buses teaching people about Parrots, field research and campaigns to reduce the trade of wild birds.
Although many of their projects are still running, many have been completed and were successful, like that to research the range of Meyer’s Parrots and protecting the numbers of Sun Conures.
Northern Parrots have products for practically every Parrot species imaginable, so you have every opportunity to treat your Parrot on this special day.
